How To Setout Your Garbage

Please note that some materials, like hazardous waste, are banned from the landfill and should not be placed inside your garbage cart or in any garbage bag that is set out. Banned materials will not be collected. For more information and a list of prohibited materials, visit prohibited materials or call 3-1-1 (or 604.873.7000 from outside Vancouver city limits).

On Your Collection Day

set your cart out by 7 amSet it out by 7:00 am. Set out your cart by 7:00 am in the lane or street you normally use to set out your garbage (unless we have instructed you otherwise). Crews begin work at 7:00 am. To find out your collection days, please check your collection schedule.

point itPoint it. Place your cart so the arrow on the lid points towards the centre of the lane or street (handle will face your property).

Spacing wide viewSpace it. Place your cart so that there is at least 1m (3ft) of space on all sides and 3m (10ft) of clearance above. Please remove or cut back any hedges or branches to provide clearance for our collection crews.

Bring it back in. After your cart has been emptied, remember to remove it off the lane or street and back to your property.

DO NOT...

garbage canDo not overfill your cart:

The lid on your cart must close completely. Overfilled carts will not be emptied.

Extra garbage must be set out separately in a property garbage bag with a sticker attached and placed beside your cart.

Do not place prohibited material into your cart:

Items from the Prohibited Material List found in your garbage cart or bag will not be collected. To find out how you can recycle or properly dispose prohibited material, contact the Recycling Council of BC at 604.732.9253 (604.RECYCLE) or e-mail hotline@rcbc.bc.ca

Extra Garbage

garbage stickersExtra garbage (garbage that does not fit into your cart) must be set out in a Standard Garbage Bag with a sticker and placed beside your garbage cart. Affix a sticker on each extra bag of garbage.
