2009 Murals
This mural is located at the south foot of Anderson Street at W. 4th Avenue, near Granville Island. The mural was painted by Larissa Healy (lead artist and Sauteaux native), Bill St-Jean (Coast Salish native from the Squamish Band), Corey Hunter (Haida native and Bill Reid's nephew) and Amie Milot. The mural is a Haidagwaii design depicting the raven.

Graffiti
Graffiti can quickly transform a neighbourhood by giving a sense that there is no control in the area. Because graffiti is often associated with other crimes it is important to report and remove graffiti quickly. The City of Vancouver is committed in removing graffiti quickly from public property including parks. If you are a victim of graffiti take a photo and then call the Vancouver Police non-emergency number (604-717-3321) to file a report. If you see graffiti on other property you can also report it by calling 3-1-1. Many businesses and corporations with assets throughout the city are also concerned about graffiti and will act quickly in removing graffiti from their property.
Do not give graffiti vandals the exposure they are seeking, remove graffiti quickly. By doing so you will be sending out a message that graffiti is not tolerated on your property and in your neighbourhood.
Managing graffiti in your neighbourhood
- In order to better control graffiti, the City of Vancouver enacted the graffiti by-law in 2003. The by-law requires property owners to have graffiti removed within 10 days after being served a notice from the City. . Do not wait for a notice to be served to you if you are a victim of graffiti. Prompt removal is imperative if you want to control graffiti vandalism on your property and neighbourhood.
- The by-law also includes a minimum $500 fine for anyone caught writing graffiti
- Take charge of your neighbourhood and organize Community Paint Outs Paint-outs encourage community groups, businesses and residents to team up and improve the physical appearance of their neighbourhood. Murals are also an effective graffiti deterrent. Hire an artist to paint a mural on a frequently vandalized wall.
