2011 Hastings Park Residential Parking
The City, in consultation with the PNE, has decided to re-instate temporary event signing for Lions Games, Whitecaps games and PNE Fair for the 2011 season. Sign installation has already begun and will continue over the next few weeks. We expect to have all temporary signing installed by May 4, 2011. These signs will come into effect during event dates as soon as the signs are posted. As well, many blocks already have permanent, year-round “Resident Parking Only” (RPO) and “Resident Permit Parking” (RPP) signs. In both cases these signs are there to deter event visitors from parking in front of your home.
Each year, we have seen some residents parking vehicles of event visitors in these restricted areas and charging a fee. This is illegal! A resident cannot use the city street or city lane to park vehicles and charge money.
This is a reminder that visitors (those without car insurance registered to an address on your block), will receive a ticket if they are parked in the “RPO” zones during the event times posted on the signs. Please, during event time periods, remind your visitors to park in your off-street private property parking spaces or elsewhere in non-restricted parking areas. We will not be cancelling any tickets received by visitors.
Empire Stadium is scheduled to be dismantled after September 2011 and the BC Lions Football & Whitecap soccer games will return to venues away from the Hastings Park venue. As a result, this will be the last year that we implement temporary “Residential Parking Only” (RPO) restrictions in this area on a seasonal basis. We have been accepting requests for permanent year round “Resident Permit Parking” (RPP) signage on a block by block basis. Residents may choose to have the permanent permit parking installed immediately or wait until the 2011 Stadium & Fair season is over for installation. All requests for residential restrictions will require that 67% or more residents are in favour of new RPP signage. Once installed, residents will then be required to purchase a permit on an annual basis. Please phone Neighbourhood Parking & Transportation Branch via 3-1-1 if you would like to initiate a request.
In regards to Backyard Parking, limits apply to the number of vehicles that you may park on your property. It is important that you are aware of these limits as Property-use Inspectors will be patrolling the area and fining those who exceed them. For information on the number of vehicles allowed, please call the Property-use Branch via 3-1-1.
The PNE also has numerous measures in place to help alleviate the neighbourhood impact, including:
- Expanded Traffic Authority to further assist with traffic flow
- Post Event Cleanup crews to pick up patron garbage
- Bike Patrol staff to assist with monitoring visitors and traffic prior to and post event in the local neighbourhood
- Continued promotion to take transit and respect the local neighbours in the following ways:
- Walk, bike or park in PNE lots
- Signage on site (i.e.- Readerboard at Renfrew/Hastings, PNE website and in stadium)
If local neighbours have questions or concerns for the PNE related items, please email communityrelations@pne.ca or call 604.253.2311 Monday – Friday, 8:30am- 4:30pm or 604.252.3600 during event times.
