Metered Parking

The first parking meters in Vancouver appeared on city streets in 1947 to help deal with growing parking pressures. With now approximately 9,000 meter spaces in the City, the goal remains the same - to encourage the turnover of vehicles in areas where there is a demand for short-term parking.

Proposed meter rate changes

Some changes to meter rates have been implemented (as of January 1, 2011) to better reflect the observed demand for on-street parking and to ensure that parking is available to serve businesses and their patrons.  This included rate increases where competition for curbside parking was high, and rate decreases where parking at previous 2010 prices was found to be underutilized.
