Christmas Tree Chipping Events
Every January, the City of Vancouver, together with volunteers from the Lions Clubs in Vancouver, organize Christmas tree chipping events at several locations throughout Vancouver. On January 7 & 8, 2012, tree chipping events took place at Kerrisdale Community Centre, Kitsilano Beach, Sunset Beach and at the Rona store on Grandview. It was a great success, raising over $12,000 and over 400 kg of food for local charities. Over 3,000 trees were chipped and sent to the Vancouver Landfill for composting. Thanks to all those who came out to support the Lions Club. For 2013, the tree chipping events will take place on January 5 & 6. Mark those dates on your calendar. Hope to see you all next year.
If you missed this year's events, you still have some options for disposing of your Christmas Tree. See below.
Other Disposal Options
If you receive City yard trimmings collection service, you may set out your live cut Christmas tree on your regular collection day. Christmas trees will be collected by City crews until January 31. Trees should be set out on their own 1 metre clear of your cart(s) and laid on their sides. Do not place the tree inside your cart. Do not bag or bundle the tree. Please remember to remove all decorations and tinsel.
Alternatively, you may drop off your tree at the Vancouver South Transfer Station or the Vancouver Landfill at no charge up to and including January 31.
