Banned Materials
KEEP HAZARDOUS AND BANNED MATERIALS OUT OF THE GARBAGE
The label on the lid of your garbage cart indicates some of the items that are banned from the garbage. A complete list is shown below.
DO NOT place the following banned materials into your garbage cart or bag:
- NO hazardous waste
- NO pathogenic, radioactive, toxic or biomedical waste
- NO sharps (syringes)
- NO liquid wastes or biosolids
- NO explosive substances (e.g. ammunition)
- NO chemicals, paints or solvents
- NO inflammable materials
- NO materials hot enough to start combustion (e.g. hot ashes)
- NO waste oil or petroleum by-products
- NO dead animals
- NO animal excrement (i.e. pet droppings)
- NO barrels, pails or other large liquid containers (whether full or empty)
- NO gypsum (drywall board)
- NO white goods (large appliances)
- NO used oil filters
- NO contaminated soil
- NO tires
- NO corrugated cardboard, newsprint and office paper*
*Clean corrugated cardboard, newsprint and office paper are all recyclable materials and are banned from the landfill. Cardboard and office paper should be placed in your yellow bag (if you live in a house) or in the paper products cart (if you live in an apartment). Newsprint should be placed in your blue bag or in the newsprint cart.
If any of these items are found in your garbage cart then your cart will NOT be emptied into the truck. Similarly, if any banned material is found in any garbage bag that has been set out that bag will not be collected.
