Bicycle rack application

The Streets Administration Branch can issue Street Use Permits to businesses that wish to purchase and install their own bicycle racks on City property. Obtaining the Street Use Permit also protects your property as it identifies the applicant as the owner of the rack.

Prerequisite

Street Use Permits will only be issued when there is no suitable room on private property to install the bicycle rack.

Costs

There is no fee for the permit. The applicant, however, is responsible for all costs associated with the deployment of the bicycle rack, including (but not limited to)

• The purchase of the bicycle rack
• Installation costs
• Any future maintenance costs

The cost of the racks will depend on the particular manufacturer and model that you select, but generally run in the $300-$500 range. Please contact a supplier of your choice for more details. Local suppliers you may wish to contact include:

How to apply

1. Download the application package:

• Please check the requirements listed on the last page to ensure your site is suitable before proceeding to fill out the application form.
• You may leave the "Location of Rack on City Property" portion blank if you prefer - staff can advise you on a suitable location(s).
2. Please submit your completed application either by mail or fax to the address listed below, or by e-mail to rob.teixeira@vancouver.ca. Do not commit to the purchase of a rack until you have received City approval: racks deployed without a permit may be removed for a cost of up to $300.
3. Your application will be reviewed by staff, who may contact you to arrange an on-site meeting to finalize the location of the rack. If your application is approved, a permit will then be issued to you in the mail.
