Newspaper boxes

Newspaper boxes provide a useful service to pedestrians. The opportunity to pick up a copy of their favourite newspaper or magazine is never far away. In addition to issuing Location Permits to individual publications for their free-standing newsboxes, the City of Vancouver has provided Multiple Publication Newsracks (MPNs) at many high-traffic and high-demand locations. MPNs can house up to 7 different publications and also contain a compartment where newspapers can be recycled.

Publishers wishing to place newsboxes on city sidewalks as a means of distributing their publications are welcome to make an application to the newsbox program. The newsbox program ensures that the newsboxes on city sidewalks are placed and maintained in compliance with the Street Distribution of Publications By-law (9350).

Newsbox program application and placement guidelines. as well as application and permit fee information, can be found in the newsbox application and information package (pdf PDF 98.9 kb).
