Automated public toilets
As part of its long-term street furniture contract with CBS/JCDecaux, the City is installing a total of eight automated public toilets in the downtown area. These toilets are automatically cleaned and sanitized after each use, and are available to the public for free.

Do the toilets cost anything to use?
No, they are available free of charge.
What hours are the toilets in service?
The toilets are in service year-round, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
How long do I have to use the toilet?
The toilets' timers are currently set to 12 minutes. After 10 minutes, you will hear an alert notifying you that you have 2 minutes remaining. After those 2 minutes are up, the door of the toilet will open automatically.
Are the toilets wheelchair-accessible
The large toilets (such as the one at Main & Terminal) are wheelchair-accessible.
When I go into the toilet, the seat is wet.
As part of the automated cleaning cycle, the toilet bowl is emptied and then sprayed and cleaned after each use — this may leave some residual wetness on the bowl, but it is only water.
How can I tell if the toilet is available?
The LED screen on the front panel of the toilet will indicate the status of the toilet: occupied, cleaning cycle*, available, out of service.
*The toilet automatically cleans itself after each use, once the person inside exists and the door shuts behind them. This cleaning cycle takes approximately 1 minute.
How do I use the toilet?
When the toilet is available (see above), press the button on the front panel to enter - the door will automatically close behind you. The door will always shut automatically - do not force the door closed, it may cause the toilet to malfunction. There is another button on the inside to open the door after you are finished. You can also open the door using the handle on the inside of the door (a sliding handle on the large toilets, and a regular lever and latch on the small ones) Audio instructions for the visually impaired are also available on the larger toilets.
