The Greenway
The Carrall Street Greenway is a major public realm, community building and economic revitalization initiative. It is being designed to reflect the diversity of activities, cultures and communities in the Downtown Eastside. The greenway incorporates green infrastructure, facilitates private investments, and provides opportunities for social services, arts and culture programming to help achieve environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability for the area.

Public Process
On April 28, 2005, Vancouver City Council approved the Carrall Street Greenway Concept Design and instructed City staff to proceed with the detailed design for the project. Staff will report back to Council on an implementation strategy in 2006.

Carrall Street Greenway Concept Design

In November 2005, Vancouver residents voted on and approved the 2006-2008 Capital Plan, including funding for the Greenway.

An Open House was held in December 2005 to present the detailed design drawings for the greenway and the concept design for Pigeon Park. A number of arts initiatives taking place along the greenway and in the Downtown Eastside were also presented.
