DETAILED DESIGN

Greenway Detailed Design Features
The greenway incorporates many green design features, including increased trees and greenery, infiltration landscaping to help absorb rain water and the unique storm water channel that runs through the length of the greenway.

Character lighting and special pavement will be maintained in the Gastown and Chinatown segments to express the unique characters of these historic neighbourhoods. Greenway character street furniture (including banners, benches, tree grates and utility covers), continuous tree planting and the storm water channel will help provide continuity along the greenway.

Amenity Zone
The flexible amenity is another unique feature of the greenway. It can accommodate parking, loading spaces and bus stops. The space can also be converted for pedestrian use during special events. The rolled curb allows car access while textured pavement helps separate the amenity zone from road space.

Future Streetcar
The greenway will accommodate two stops, at Cordova St and Water St, for the future streetcar. Council approved a downtown streetcar system in principle after a previous public process. This system would provide an attractive transit service in and around the downtown peninsula. It would link destinations such as Granville Island, Chinatown, Yaletown, Gastown, and Stanley Park.
