The Central Valley Greenway, which is currently under construction, will be an inter-urban cycling and pedestrian facility linking important regional destinations in Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster. The 25 kilometre greenway will connect 11 SkyTrain Stations, 23 bus routes, 16 existing bike routes, and 11 greenways making it accessible to users across the region. Regional map »»
In Vancouver, the Central Valley Greenway is being developed in several phases, with the first phase complete on Grandview Highway North between Commercial Drive and Slocan Street. This phase of the greenway opened in 2002 and includes several innovations and public amenities including: bike streets which are closed to vehicle traffic, improved lighting, native habitat restoration, recycled materials, drinking fountains, a butterfly garden, a bocce court, seating areas and public art.

The current phase of the greenway is being developed in three sections, with construction anticipated to be complete by spring 2009. This phase is a joint venture of the City of Vancouver, TransLink and Transport Canada, as part of the Federal Government's Urban Transportation Showcase Program. The goal of the program is to increase walking and cycling, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve connections to transit, community amenities and other greenways and bikeways.
