2010 Winter and Paralympic Games

Some bike routes will be temporarily altered in the lead up to and during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to accommodate operational and security needs. Wherever possible, bike route closures will be accommodated by safe and well-marked alternatives.

Road Closures

The Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (V2010-ISU) is responsible for securing the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. It has mandated a number of security-based road closures during the Games to ensure the safety of athletes, officials and the general public. Some of these roads are existing bikeways.

Ontario/Seaside DETOUR - Science World to 3rd Ave NEW!

The connection between 3rd Avenue and the Seaside Bike route (at Science World) will continue to be temporarily detoured leading up to and during the 2010 Paralympic Games. This temporary detour is an important link for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Quebec Street will continue to act as the temporary detoured route however some changes have been implemented as we transition into the Paralympic Games period. Starting on March 6, 2010 the east sidewalk of Quebec Street will be for pedestrian use only. All pedestrians are required to use the east sidewalk between Terminal Avenue to 1st Ave as the west sidewalk is closed. Cyclists are provided with a separated two-way on-street bike lane on the west side of Quebec Street. This temporary bi-directional bike lane will be delineated from Terminal Avenue to the lane south of 1st Avenue. Look for wayfinding signage to connect with the Ontario Bikeway and Seaside Bike Route. Cyclists going to Downtown can use Cambie Bridge east sidewalk as an alternate route choice.
