Bike parking
Cycling is one of the City’s transportation priorities, and the fastest-growing method of travel in Vancouver. The City has over 400 lane km of bike routes and both on-street and off-street facilities. Every bicycle trip has a start and an end destination. An important service for cyclists is access to convenient and secure bike parking. In, May 2010, Vancouver City Council approved funding for bicycle parking improvements throughout the City. This is your opportunity to suggest new locations for bicycle racks which are currently in need.
Over 20 racks have been installed throughout the city at locations requested by the public. In addition, bicycle rack improvements are currently underway for a number of commercial corridors throughout the city, totaling over 300 new inverted ‘U’ bicycle racks. You can expect new racks on East and West Broadway (St. Catherine’s to Arbutus), Main Street (7th to 16th), Davie Street, Robson Street, Dunsmuir Street and Dunbar Street. It’s not too late to send in your request.
In 2010 , the business areas of Commercial Drive and Hastings Street (between Lakewood Drive and Renfrew Street) saw the installation of 100 new City designed inverted 'U' bicycle racks . These new racks provide opportunities for residents to use sustainable modes of transportation to get to local destinations.
Easy to spot with the "
" logo, these racks are designed to lock up to two bikes at a time and take up much less sidewalk space than traditional bike racks. Providing accessible and attractive bike racks eliminates clutter from sidewalks and reduces hazards to pedestrians.
These racks were funded by the City of Vancouver's cycling network program.
