Council Approves Development of New Cycling Plan
With the aim of increasing cycling mode share in the City, Council has approved the development of a new 10-year Cycling Program Master Plan to replace the 1999 Bike Plan, which is largely complete.
In addition to approving development of the Master Plan, Council also approved the development of a comprehensive cycling monitoring program, installation of additional on-street bicycle parking, and spot improvements on existing bikeways. Also approved in principle are a new east-west bike route along 45th Avenue, better cycling connections to the Canada Line Bridge, and a trial of a fully separated bike lane or lanes on an arterial street outside Downtown.
Public Bike Share System
The City is currently looking at implementing a public bike share system in Vancouver. This kind of system would let people use a self-service rental station to take out a bike at one location and return it at their destination.
If you have further questions about this initiative, please contact the Bicycle Hotline at 3-1-1 or bikevancouver@vancouver.ca
