Together with the Transit Museum Society (TRAMS), the City of Vancouver is working hard to restore electric rail transportation to Vancouver. All Vancouverites are invited to become part of this celebration of our heritage as we restore environmentally friendly and efficient transportation with this inner-city electric streetcar system. The Transit Museum Society (www.trams.bc.ca - Note: site will open into new window) and the Vancouver AM Tourism Association are Pioneering Partners with the City of Vancouver, operating and promoting the Downtown Historic Railway. Many other individuals, corporations and organizations support the DHR. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bailey and the Victoria Historical Transit Association were the restoration crew for Car 1231. TransLink (formerly BC Transit) funded and conducted the restoration of Car 1207, and Dick Thrash and Byron Cole have leased the vehicle to the City. BC Hydro donated the electrical works for the initial demonstration line, between Granville Island and Leg-in-Boot Stations. Canada Place Corporation (www.canadaplace.ca - Note: site will open into new window) has sponsored special events for the grand opening of the demonstration line and the subsequent opening of Science World Station. Science World (www.scienceworld.bc.ca - Note: site will open into new window) continues to support the railway with marketing advice and in-kind donations. CMHC - Granville Island (www.granvilleisland.com - Note: site will open into new window) has donated funds and provided marketing support for the railway. The Vancouver Courier Newspaper also has donated to the operation of the streetcar system. Other supporters include: SNC-Lavalin Inc., False Creek Ferries, Aquabus Ferries, The Vancouver Trolley Company, Tourism Vancouver (www.tourism-vancouver.org - Note: site will open into new window) the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area, False Creek South Neighbourhood Association, West Coast Express, Monk McQueens Fresh Seafood and Oyster Bar, The Flag Shop, Baker McGarva Hart, Inc., and the Pan Pacific Hotel. Donations and Sponsorship All donations in excess of $25 to the Downtown Historic Railway will receive tax receipts.
