Traffic Management

The Traffic Management Branch is responsible for the operation of Vancouver's network of arterial streets, based on priorities adopted by City Council. These priorities focus on the pedestrian first, then bicycles, transit, movement of goods and vehicular traffic. The branch regulates safe movement on arterial (major) streets through pedestrian safety initiatives, traffic signals, directional signage, and appropriate usage of curbside and turn regulations.

Orthophoto taken from VanMapRapid City growth means an increase in the number of construction sites. The branch assists in the coordination of traffic control during street construction and works to ensure safety standards are met by monitoring construction sites and adjacent streets. This ensures that crew and residents are well protected.

The branch is also actively working with the tourism industry to better integrate tour bus travel within the City of Vancouver while responding to the needs of local residents.

In partnership with TransLink, Traffic Management installs, upgrades and maintains transit infrastructure, such as bus stops, signage and transit signal priorities.
