The quality of Vancouver's tap water is excellent. Because bottled water has high economic and ecological costs, Vancouver has decided to phase out its availability in civic facilities. The Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU)
NEU will provide space heating and hot water services to all new buildings in Southeast False Creek. The NEU is flexible to accommodate a wide variety of existing and future renewable energy options that are not otherwise available to an individual building heating system. The first phase of NEU development, expected to be complete in November 2009, will use sewage heat recovery technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50% compared to conventional energy sources. Filtration Plant Project
Metro Vancouver has built a water filtration plant that will treat most of Vancouver's water supply. The filtration plant, is being constructed in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, located downstream of the Seymour reservoir. When the filtration plant opens it will treat water from the Seymour Reservoir and once underground tunnels are completed, it will filter the water from the Capilano reservoir as well...read more
