Historic buildings in Vancouver that are protected by municipal heritage designations or other legal agreements are identified by a heritage plaque or marker.
These plaques acknowledge the value and significance of Vancouver's heritage resources and helps raise awareness for both residents and visitors.

Current plaques
We use a bronze inverted triangle-shaped marker to identify a heritage protected building.
The marker incorporates the City coat of arms and is highlighted in our signature blue.
Older plaques
Some older plaques include full text inscriptions describing the building’s heritage value and significance.
These inscriptions may cover:
- The building's significance, such as its date of construction, architect, or builder
- Notable architectural styles or features
- Significant events or people associated with the building, including original or long-term owners
Refer to the Heritage By-law PDF file (1 MB) for a complete list of municipally designated heritage buildings. Many, but not all, designated buildings have heritage plaques.
