Volunteers are the driving force behind the delivery of many of the programs and services provided at Carnegie Community Centre. Our volunteers, many of whom are residents of the Downtown Eastside, make positive contributions to the community they serve every single day.
Information icon All active volunteer positions remain filled, and we will be increasing recruitment slowly throughout 2022 as opportunities become available. Priority recruitment for restarting programs will be given to past volunteers that were suspended during the pandemic, followed by new volunteers.
All connected volunteers will continue to receive email updates (printed copies are posted on the 2nd floor volunteer information board for those without computer/digital access), and new volunteers are encouraged to connect in the New Year.
Note Volunteer opportunities and procedures at Carnegie Centre have been revised due to COVID-19.
Positions that have restarted with a limited capacity for fall 2021 include:
- Kitchen server
- Food preparation
- The Learning Centre
Important note You must be 19 years of age to volunteer at the Carnegie Centre.
The City and Carnegie Centre have developed health and safety protocols based on public health guidance in response to COVID-19 to support the safety of staff, volunteers, and the public.
Due to the limited opportunities and gradual reopening, recruitment will focus first on past volunteers that were displaced by the pandemic.
Upcoming volunteer opportunities will open gradually, as current programs expand, and as new or restarted programs create volunteer opportunities. As opportunities increase, they will be included in future communications and feel free to keep in touch.
