UNDRIP Task Force

Task force priorities

  • Consult and collaborate with xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ in the implementation of the first 5-year UNDRIP Action Plan
  • Continue engagement with the diversity of the urban Indigenous community
  • Continue to develop and strengthen relationships at the Council to Council and staff to staff level through plan implementation
  • Lay the framework for sustainable, ongoing intergovernmental partnership in UNDRIP implementation for the first 5 years and beyond

In 2021, City Council created the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) Task Force:

  • Tasked with overseeing the implementation of UNDRIP in the City of Vancouver
  • Operates in partnership with the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation)
  • Is currently implementing the 2024-2028 UNDRIP Action Plan (614 KB), with a first annual report scheduled for public Council review in spring or summer 2025
