People getting onto a bus on Broadway

Broadway Subway early works

To maintain access to transit along the Broadway corridor during the construction of the Broadway Subway Project, three routes will be detoured and new trolley wires will be installed to accommodate adjusted routes for the 14, 16, and 17 trolley buses. These changes are temporary for the duration of construction beginning in 2020.

Trolley wires will be installed along portions of 12th Avenue, Macdonald Street, and Cambie Street, to accommodate bus detours.

Construction of the trolley wires is expected to begin in February 2019 and conclude in 2020.

Wires will be installed:

  • Along Macdonald Street, between 4th Avenue and Broadway Avenue
  • Along 12th Avenue, between Arbutus and Granville Street, and Oak and Cambie Street
  • Along Cambie Street, between Broadway Avenue and 12th Avenue

The detours will go into effect when construction begins for the Broadway Subway in 2020 as part of our regular service changes.

Impact to residents

We will keep neighbours informed of the construction schedule and impacts throughout the project. During the work, residents may experience construction-related impacts and temporary street parking restrictions.

Construction will occur during the day, from Monday to Friday, with some occasional weekend work. At this time, no overnight work is expected.

Residents may experience increased noise and activity, as well as occasional lane closures, throughout construction.

We thank our neighbours for their patience while we prepare to for the construction of Broadway Subway.
