Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Changes to our EV charging services

Starting in April 2025, our public EV chargers will be powered by PlugEV. During this time, you might notice some differences when plugging in.

There will be a QR code on the chargers directing you to a new webpage from PlugEV, where you will need to sign in to pay and activate the chargers, which replaces the current app.

We don’t anticipate any disruption to using our public EV chargers.

By 2050, 50% of kilometers driven will be by zero-emission vehicles.

The ways we move around Vancouver play an important role in the city’s carbon emissions. To respond to climate change and reduce carbon pollution, we need safe and convenient active transportation, improved public transit, and to transition to zero-emission vehicles.

Emissions related to transportation make up nearly 40% of the city's total carbon pollution. To lower the city’s transportation emissions, the Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP) set a goal for 50% of the kilometers driven on Vancouver’s roads be by zero-emission vehicles by 2050.

The Province's Zero-Emission Vehicles Act establishes a goal that by 2035, 100% of light-duty vehicles sold will be zero-emission vehicles.

We are supporting the shift to zero-emission vehicles with actions that promote EV adoption and enhance public and private charging. Accelerated actions to support these goals focus on:

  • Improving and expanding the public EV charging network
  • Creating policy to support at home charging
  • Increasing the number of EVs in our vehicle fleet
  • Working with businesses and other levels of government to make switching to EVs easier

ZEV decal benefits

The Province of BC administers a decal program for zero emission vehicles. Electric vehicles displaying an official decal are provided with benefits province-wide, with additional benefits offered in Vancouver.
