Applications are open for the 2023 VFRS Youth Outreach Academy
The academy runs from April 17 to 21 at our Chess Street Training Centre in Vancouver.
Submit your application by March 31.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Youth Outreach Academy is a 5-day program that gives students the opportunity to experience the career training and work practice of a Vancouver Firefighter.
Through training like a firefighter recruit at Youth Outreach Academy, students will develop personal values and life skills such as teamwork, communication, professionalism, personal accountability, and service to community.
Examples of what this 5-day program may consist of are:
- Firefighting operations
- Search and rescue techniques
- The use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
- CPR certification
- Portable extinguisher training
- Volunteerism
- Auto extrication
VFRS Youth Outreach Academy fosters personal growth and empowers students to overcome challenges in all facets of their lives.
Eligibility
Applications for the VFRS Youth Outreach Academy are welcome from any student in grades 10 to 12 who lives or goes to school in the City of Vancouver.
Public, private, alternative, and home school students are welcome. Students must be committed to attend and complete all 5 days.
We can accept up to 24 students for this amazing opportunity. Once they have successfully graduated the academy, they become part of the VFRS Youth Academy Alumni.
