Vancouver is home to world-class parks and recreation, and our population is growing and changing.

It’s essential we look to the future to protect and improve parks and recreation across the city.

VanPlay is a year-long conversation with you, our staff, partners, stakeholders, and experts to make this the best plan it can be.

Master plan

Vancouver’s Parks and Recreation Services Master Plan will help us to determine service gaps, analyze growth trends, and identity opportunities for improvements. It is a visionary document that sets the values and goals for current and future parks and facilities.

On July 23, 2018, Park Board Commissioners unanimously approved Report 1: Inventory and Analysis and Report 2: 10 Goals to Shape the Next 25 Years.

Part one

Inventory and Analysis

This report provides an overview of the current state of our parks and recreation system. It aims to provide an introduction to our assets, programs, and operations.

This inventory and analysis provides the groundwork for the future goals, actions, and strategies outlined in the remainder of the master plan's components.

The goals were developed through Park Board Commissioner, public, partner, staff, and stakeholder input and research into best practices and precedents from around the world.

We believe that this renewed focus will improve our parks and recreation and enrich the beauty and livability of Vancouver.

The draft goals where verified in May and June 2018 through the Park Board commissioner, staff, and community consultation.

Part two

The final two components of the master plan are due in early 2019.
