Granville Street transit improvements

We're working with TransLink to improve bus service on Granville Street between 5th Avenue and SW Marine Drive. These upgrades support bus routes 10, 16, 100, and night routes N10, N9, and N17.

What's happeningBus bulb construction and bus lane installation

Granville St between W 12 Ave and W 15th Ave

Construction on the South Granville bus bulbs began in January 2026 and is expected to complete in summer 2026. Learn more about South Granville bus bulb construction

Granville St between W 16th Ave and W 57th Ave

Existing bus lane hours will be extended to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Installation is expected to start in February and complete in April.
Crews will update curbside regulation signs and install new overhead bus lane signs on trolley poles. Once signage is installed, curbside parking will be restricted and general traffic will not be permitted to travel in the bus lanes.

Granville St between W 57th Ave and SW Marine Dr

Existing bus lane hours will be extended to weekday peak periods (7am to 10am and 3pm and 7pm). Installation is expected in spring 2026.

We are improving transit with different types of changes along 3 sections of Granville Street:

South Granville (5th to 16th Ave)
Central corridor (16th Ave to 63rd Ave)
Marpole Village (63rd Ave to SW Marine Dr)

South Granville (5th Ave to 16th Ave) transit upgrades
This area has many restaurants, shops, offices, services, and health care providers. We plan to improve transit while making it easier to walk and shop in South Granville.

Second phase of improvements (summer 2025 to spring 2026)

In summer 2025 through to spring 2026, street upgrades are planned to:
- Widen the sidewalk with new bus bulbs (curb extensions) and amenities for the stops at 12th and 15th avenues on both sides of Granville
- Widen the sidewalk through the intersection at 14th Ave, as part of the plaza upgrade
- Shorten the distance to cross Granville at 12th, 14th, and 15th avenues
The sidewalk upgrades are the second phase of improvements.

First phase of improvements completed

In summer 2024, we completed the first phase including:
- Relocated bus stops
- Parking and loading zones extended for all times of day on both sides of Granville between 10th Ave and 15th Ave, and on the east side of Granville between 8th Ave and 5th Ave
- New and adjusted loading zones to better support deliveries, commercial loading, and passenger loading
- New right-turn pockets to reduce delays for buses and traffic at intersections
- Bus lanes between 15th Ave and 16th Ave during morning and afternoon peaks, transitioning to the bus lanes south of 16th Ave
- Enabling curbside patios

Central corridor (16th Ave to 63rd Ave) transit upgrades
This area has low parking demand and high traffic volumes. Improvements are planned for transit to be fast and reliable along the busy corridor, with better access to neighbourhoods and other transit connections.

Bus lane and parking changes
- Southbound on Granville St
  - 16th Ave to 63rd Ave - bus lane extended to all day every day
- Northbound on Granville St
  - 62nd Ave to 16th Ave - bus lane extended to all day every day
- Drivers may enter the curb lane immediately before an intersection or driveway to make a right turn.
- No street parking is allowed at any time in bus lanes.
Bus stop changes

TransLink adjusted the spacing of bus stops for Route 10 and N10 along Granville St between 16th Ave and SW Marine Dr.

The bus stop changes:
- Took effect on June 23, 2025
- Meet TransLink’s Transit Service Guidelines for stops to be about 300 metres to 400 metres apart
- Shifted stops closer to traffic signals, supporting safer access to bus stops

Marpole Village (63rd Ave to SW Marine Dr) transit upgrades
Marpole Village is a bustling area with shops, restaurants, and services. It connects transit users to major regional destinations, like YVR airport. About 3,400 trips on Route 10 start or end in Marpole Village on an average day.

The proposed changes keep transit moving smoothy during the busiest times of day, while allowing for convenient parking and loading to support local businesses.

Bus lane changes
- Southbound on Granville St
  - 63rd Ave to SW Marine Dr - bus lane extended to weekday morning and afternoon peak hours (Monday to Friday, 7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm)
- Northbound on Granville St
  - SW Marine Dr to 62nd Ave – bus lane extended to weekday morning and afternoon peak hours (Monday to Friday, 7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm)
- Drivers may enter the curb lane immediately before an intersection or driveway to make a right turn.
Parking and loading
- On both sides of Granville St between 63rd Ave and SW Marine Dr, on-street parking and loading is allowed from 10am to 3pm and 7pm to 7am
- On the east side of Granville St between 63rd Ave and 62 Ave, on-street parking and loading is allowed from 10am to 3pm and 7pm to 7am
- There are new parking and loading spaces at the closed bus stop on the west side of Granville at 65th Ave
Bus stop changes

Bus stop changes in Marpole Village
- Southbound stop #50864 at the midblock crossing near Safeway is a temporary stop that will be shifted back to the far-side of 68th Ave after construction is completed (expected completion: fall 2025).
- Southbound stop #50863 at 65th Ave will stay, temporarily, to maintain access during nearby construction. When construction is complete and the W 68th Ave stop returns to its original location near the intersection, the W 65th Ave stop will be removed.

Engagement summary
In April 2025, we notified over 15,500 residents, businesses, and key stakeholders of the Granville Street Transit Improvements project through mailed letters, postcards, posters at bus stops, and social media.

Feedback was received through:
- Over 250 emails
- Over 420 survey responses
- In-person door knocking with Marpole businesses
- Meetings with the South Granville Business Improvement Association (SGBIA), Marpole Business Association (MBA), Movement YVR, and several Council Advisory Committees.
We made several changes in response to public and stakeholder feedback:
- Northbound between SW Marine Dr and W 70th Ave: Bus lanes will now operate only on weekdays during peak hours (7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm) instead of all day.
- Northbound between W 63rd and W 62nd Ave: Peak-hour bus lanes will replace the original all-day proposal, retaining more parking midday and on weekends.
- Local streets: Parking limits will be extended from one hour to two hours, and new 2-hour zones will be added nearby to support customer access.
- Implementation in Marpole Village will begin after the winter holiday season to minimize business impacts.
- The City and the Business and Economy Office will complete a post-implementation economic study to assess outcomes.
- The revised design maintains the key benefit of faster and more reliable bus service, while improving access to short-term parking across the Marpole Village area.
