Kingsway-Main Street transit improvements

More than 48,000 bus trips are impacted by delays on the Kingsway-Main St corridor each day. We're making it easier for buses to stay on time and move more people. We're working with TransLink to improve bus service on Kingsway between Main St and Boundary Rd, and part of Main St between Union St and E 7th Ave.

We are extending bus lanes and improving major intersections to help buses move smoothly through traffic. These upgrades support bus routes 19, 3, 8, 25, and 26.

What's happeningWe’re adding bus lanes on Kingsway and Main St

Starting in April 2026, curbside and traffic signs, and new pavement markings will be installed:

Overhead bus lane signs on Kingsway and Main St
Curbside parking signs with updated parking restriction hours on Kingsway, Main St, and some side streets

Always check signs before parking or loading on the street. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place. Watch for “no parking” signs as work progresses.

Planned work hours

Monday to Friday: 7am to 5pm
Saturday (if required): 7am to 5pm
Sunday (if required): 10am to 5pm

Some overnight work or off-work hours may be required. All work will comply with construction noise requirements.

Main St (Union St to E 7th Ave)
We’re extending bus lane hours and adding new bus lanes along this section of the corridor. The curb lane will be designated as a bus lane and parking will be restricted during these hours.

Bus lane changes

Bus lanes on both sides of Main Street between East 7th Avenue and Union St will be extended. Only buses, bikes, and taxis may drive in bus lanes. Other vehicles may use the bus lane to turn right, but may not travel continuously through intersections.

Bus lane changes and extended hours along Main Street:
- Northbound and southbound between East 7th Avenue to National Avenue: 7am to 7pm, everyday
- Northbound from National Avenue to Union Street: 7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
- Southbound from National Avenue to Union Street: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
Parking changes

Parking restrictions will follow the bus lane hour restrictions.

Intersection changes

Left turns will be restricted during peak hours to keep buses and traffic moving at the following intersections:
- Southbound at Main St and E 3rd Ave: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
- Southbound at Main St and Prior St: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday (extended from 3pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday)
Changes made in response to feedback

Based on feedback received (719 KB), we are making these changes on Main Street between East 7th Avenue and Union Street:
- Extending bus lanes on Main Street between Union Street and Prior Street to the following:
  - West side: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
  - East side: 7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
- Relocating a loading zone from the south side to the north side of E 6th Avenue, and adding a loading zone on E 7th Avenue
- Adding time limits and pay parking to some unregulated parking spaces on E 4th Avenue, E 5th Avenue, E 6th Avenue, and E 7th Avenue
- Converting some permit parking to pay parking except with permit on E 5th Avenue and E 6th Avenue
- Adding some parking on the north side of E 7th Avenue
Kingsway (Main St to Dumfries St)
Existing parking restrictions and bus lanes in this section of the corridor will be extended slightly, with the curbside lane reserved for buses at designated hours.

Bus lane changes

Bus lanes will be in operation Monday to Friday during morning and afternoon peak periods. Only buses, bikes, and taxis may drive in bus lanes. Other vehicles may use the bus lane to turn right but may not travel continuously through intersections.

Bus lanes hours:
- North side on Kingsway: 7am to 10am, Monday to Friday
- South side on Kingsway: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
Parking changes

Parking restrictions will be extended by 30 minutes on the north side of Kingsway and by 1 hour on the south side of Kingsway:
- North side on Kingsway: 7am to 10 am, Monday to Friday
- South side on Kingsway: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
Parking will be restricted for longer no stopping zones approaching the intersections of Main St, Broadway (east side), E 12th Ave (east side), Fraser St, Clark Dr (south side), Knight St, and Dumfries St (south side).

Intersection changes

Left turns will be restricted during peak hours to keep buses and traffic moving at the following intersections:
- Southbound at Kingsway and E 11th Ave: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
- Northbound at Kingsway and E 11th Ave: 7am to 10 am and 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday (extended from 7am to 9:30am, Monday to Friday)
Changes made in response to feedback

Based on feedback received (719 KB), we are making the following changes on Kingsway between Main Street and Dumfries Street:
- Reinstating weekday midday street parking at 4 spaces on Kingsway near Broadway
- Allowing loading to take place in the morning on Kingsway near E 15th Avenue
- Adding loading zones on E 7th Avenue, E 15th Avenue, and E 16th Avenue
- Relocating a loading zone from the south side of E 6th Avenue to the north side
- Adding some street parking on the north side of E 7th Avenue
- Adding time limits and pay parking to some unregulated parking spaces on E 7th Avenue, E 8th Avenue, Carolina Street, E 16th Avenue, and Knight St
- Removing rush regulations to allow parking at 10 spaces on Knight Street near 22nd Avenue
Kingsway (Dumfries St to Nanaimo St)
Existing parking restrictions will be extended to morning and afternoon peak hours, with the curbside lane reserved for buses at designated hours.

- Monday to Friday on both sides of the street: 7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm
- For longer no stopping zones approaching the intersections of Victoria Dr, Gladstone St (north side), and Nanaimo St

- Westbound at Kingsway and Lincoln St: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday (extended from 3pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday)
- Westbound at Kingsway and Senlac St: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
- Westbound at Kingsway and Wessex St: 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday
Changes made in response to feedback

Based on feedback received (719 KB), we are making the following changes on Kingsway between Nanaimo St and Boundary Rd:
- Extending some 1-hour time limits to 2-hour time limits on Kingsway near Moss Street
- Adding loading zones on Kingsway near Joyce Street, and on Earles Street and Moss Street
- Adding 2-hour time limits to some unregulated parking spaces on Kingsway and Fairmont Street
- Adding weekday afternoon peak left-turn restrictions for westbound traffic on Kingsway at Senlac Street and Wessex Street
