On June 4, 2025, Council approved the Granville Street Plan. This plan sets a 20-year vision to transform downtown Granville Street into a safer, more vibrant destination, with a bustling pedestrianized street linked with restaurants, entertainment, hotels, and more. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this milestone.
Alongside the Granville Street Plan, City Council also approved a rezoning policy for the plan area, and the Granville Street Special Design District Guidelines.
The Granville Street Plan was shaped by a multi-year engagement process with input from local businesses, residents, community organizations, equity-denied groups, service providers, and the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
What's happeningThe Granville Street Plan implementation phase has begun
The Granville Street Plan will be implemented through a flexible and adaptable phased approach.
In the near term, implementation will include zoning updates, pedestrian zone pilots, early transit improvements on Granville and Howe and Seymour streets, and initial work to advance District Management.
In the long term, the plan will guide major redevelopment, expanded cultural spaces, and the full pedestrianization of the corridor – creating a safer, more inclusive, and vibrant destination for all.
