Children skipping rope on a School Street.

Lord Selkirk year-round School Street

Lord Selkirk Elementary has been part of the School Streets Program since 2023. The program temporarily closes a block to vehicle traffic during school pick-up and drop-off times, creating space for walking, biking, and rolling.

Positive feedback from the school community has led to the consideration of a year-round School Street that would operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The proposed School Street would run along East 22nd Avenue between Welwyn and Commercial streets, the same block used in the current program. It would use quick-build materials to create a car-free or car-light space that remains in effect at all times.
