Street with neighbourhood slow zone sign

Neighbourhood Slow Zone Program

We’re reducing speed limits to 30 km/h on all local streets to improve safety for people:

  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Rolling
  • Taking transit
  • Driving

To support the ability to enforce speed limits, we'll install 30 km/h signage at entry points into residential neighbourhoods.

The first 25 neighbourhoods were selected because they are primarily local residential streets surrounded by arterial (main) roads. They already have, or will soon have, traffic calming features that support lower vehicle speeds.

When signage will be installed

  • 30 km/h signage will be installed at entry points into 25 neighbourhoods over the next 3 years.
  • 17 of the 25 neighbourhoods already have traffic calming in place, with most drivers travelling below 30 km/h.
    • The remaining 8 neighbourhoods are scheduled for additional traffic calming through the Neighbourhood Traffic Management Program.
    • More neighbourhoods may receive signage in the future, if funding is available.

Local streets are typically in residential areas and don’t have a centre line.
