Vancouver approves updates to implement Villages in the Rupert and Renfrew Station Area Plan

January 14 2026 - At a public hearing last night, Council approved zoning and building updates to implement Villages in the Rupert and Renfrew Station Area Plan.

Vancouver City Hall closed due to power outage

December 17 2025 - City Hall is experiencing a power outage from last night’s windstorm and is closed to the public today, but staff and services remain available.

About Councillor Montague

Biography

Councillor Brian Montague was born and raised in Vancouver and has a life-long connection to the city.

After graduating from Churchill Secondary, he went to Langara College and studied Criminal Justice. At the age of 24, Brian started a career with the Vancouver Police Department. His various jobs within the VPD included many years in the Downtown Eastside, working as an undercover operator inside the city’s drug trade, and was part of multiple surveillance positions that focused on property crime, violent crime, and organized crime, and another that targeted sexual offenders. Brian also spent time investigating the Stanley Cup riots and was the VPD spokesperson for five years. His final years were spent as a collision investigator, focused on serious and fatal crashes.

Throughout his career, Brian received 11 commendations related to various life-saving calls, policing initiatives, as well as both operational and investigative excellence. He retired from the Vancouver Police in May of 2022 after more than 28 years of exemplary service.

Councillor Montague believes it is important for everyone to be excited about, and take pride in, the places they live and work. He wants to help revitalize neighbourhoods, create livable communities, and ensure Vancouver is clean, safe, and welcoming to visitors.

Brian has been married to his wife since 2001 and has two beautiful daughters.
