About Councillor Fry

Biography

Councillor Pete Fry was first elected in 2018 on a commitment to open government, collaborative community engagement, and a thriving resilient city comprised of complete and equitable communities; with a focus on tenant protections and housing affordability, slower safer streets, mental health and addictions, zero waste, and Vancouver's first-ever city-wide plan.

Since his first term, working with staff and council, Fry pushed forward initiatives to improve pedestrian safety, Vancouver's first-ever renter's office, an East Side Arts District, recognition for the historic Punjabi Market, North America's first animal-welfare-informed procurement policy, a ban on consumer fireworks, renewal of Britannia Community Centre, enhanced tenant protections, and preserving Vancouver’s Integrity Commissioner office among dozens of other initiatives.

Pete continues fighting for the people who live and work in Vancouver, keeping public services intact and funded, and pushing our city on track adapting to and mitigating the threat of global climate change.

An illustrator and designer by trade, Councillor Fry's work prior to public service was in community development, advocacy, and communications; working with hundreds of local small businesses, arts and non-profits, and volunteering his skills to support low-income families in the DTES, AIDS-relief, food security, animal welfare, cultural groups, and fighting climate change.

Councillor Pete Fry has lived in Vancouver since immigrating to Canada as a child and currently lives in Strathcona with his wife and assorted animals.
