The Vancouver Park Board, in partnership with the Vancouver School Board, is upgrading and expanding the existing track and field facility at Kerrisdale Park - Point Grey Secondary School.
The upgraded amenities will:
- Improve training and recreational opportunities for facility users
- Better serve the city’s population growth and increased participation in track and field sports
- Help provide equitable access to these facilities and promote participation in physical activity
The improvements follow the recommendations outlined in the Vancouver Park Board Track and Field Strategy that identifies this site as a ‘Category B’ facility capable of hosting multi-purpose sport and para-sport training and small events with priority given to track and field training and local competitions.
Proposed upgrades
- Replacement and resurfacing of the existing six-lane 400m track with new low-impact, rubberized surfacing
- Addition of a ‘recreational lane’ on the outside edge of the track to help accommodate simultaneous use
- New and upgraded jumping and throwing amenities
- New space for temporary and permanent spectator seating
- Upgraded and relocated on-site storage to improve access and efficiency
- New lighting infrastructure
- Parking improvements
- Improvements to overall site accessibility, user circulation patterns, and landscape integration
