Quebec St and 1st Ave: Street Improvements

We’re undertaking infrastructure upgrades to repair the street, and improve comfort and safety for people walking and cycling around Quebec St and 1st Ave.

The area of Quebec St and 1st Ave was primarily designed for vehicle traffic and the streets are in poor condition following several years of development and construction.

Once complete, the streets will be improved for people walking, cycling and driving through the neighbourhood with:

  • New sidewalks
  • A new traffic signal at Switchmen St
  • Protected bike lanes on both sides of Quebec St and 1st Ave
  • New on-street parking along 1st Ave
  • New street lights
  • Landscaped boulevards with trees

How this project may affect you

Access to residences and business

Primary access to residences and businesses will be maintained as much as possible. Due to the work involved with the rebuilding of sidewalks, different access points may be temporarily impeded.

Advance notification will be provided to ensure that impacts for residents and businesses are minimized as much as possible.

Parking restrictions will be in effect to accommodate construction. Be sure to watch for No Parking signs as work progresses. Restrictions will be lifted as soon as they’re no longer needed.

1st Ave will be closed to vehicle traffic from Quebec to Main St. Access will be maintained for residents, and for people walking and cycling.

Traffic along Quebec St may be reduced to one lane each direction if required.

All road users are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting vancouver.ca/roadwork or to connect with us on the go through VanConnect.
