West King Edward Ave going west from Arbutus

West King Edward upgrades

As part of the upgrades, we are also making Arbutus Greenway improvements to the intersection of West King Edward and Arbutus Street.

We will be prioritizing urgent needs, including:

  • Safety upgrades
  • Better connections to nearby routes

In summer 2022, we began critical upgrades to water, sewer, and street infrastructure and added in green rainwater infrastructure along West King Edward Avenue from Arbutus Street to Dunbar Street.

Our work includes installing 1.5 kilometre of new water main and a replacement of the existing combined sewer with a separated and larger capacity system with one pipe for rainwater runoff and a second pipe for sanitary sewer. This new water and sewer infrastructure will have a life expectancy of 100 years.

What's happeningConstruction underway until late 2024

Our water main and sewer main upgrades are now complete. Road widening, paving, and green rainwater infrastructure installation on the north side of King Edward, between Quesnel Drive and Dunbar Street, will be completed by the end of 2024.
